Unpacking Instructions
1) Unpacking
When your plants are delivered, unpack the box immediately.
- Carefully unpack all the layers in the box.
- Remove the black plastic wrap and shredded paper.
- Some plants are grown entirely in Sphagnum moss; this should not be removed.
- A strong, healthy root system is the most important feature of the plant.
2) Watering
Check each pot to see if it requires watering.
- If the soil becomes visually dry, water the plant until water comes out the bottom of the pot.
3) Transition
Give plants time to slowly adjust to the environment.
- Place new plants in moderate temperatures and good light for a day or two.
- Move plants to their permanent location after they adjust from shipping.
- Allow plants a week to acclimate before transplanting or fertilizing.
4) Repotting
Once your plants have acclimated to their location, they will require repotting.
- Repot into larger pot sizes gradually.
- Turn the pot upside down and gently tap the edge to release the root ball.
- Never pull on the stem of the plant.
Receiving Dormant Plants
Special Instructions for Dormant Plants
If your order contains plants that are currently dormant, please read the following to ensure proper care.
1) Unpacking
Carefully inspect your plants upon receipt. Those that have a dormant tag in the pots are currently dormant.
2) Watering
After unwrapping the plants and pots, check to see if the soil is dry and water it if needed.
3) Growing Locations
- If the ground is open, plant it in the desired spot in your garden or landscape.
- If the ground is frozen, keep the dormant plant in a cool or cold spot until spring.
- Check the soil every 2-3 weeks so it never dries out completely.
4) Planting
In spring, plant as soon as the ground is open and no longer frozen. Place the plant in the hole at the same level it was in the pot. Fill with good soil and water well.
