Pick the canna colour you want
Cannas are the plant you reach for when a border needs height, heat tolerance and colour that keeps going into September. They grow from a rhizome, throw up banana-like leaves within weeks, and then flower continuously until the first frost.
Four colours: red, pink, orange or yellow. Each pack ships as firm, hand-checked rhizomes in a 1 to 5 pack.
Why cannas earn their space
- Heat is their friend. While other perennials sulk in a July heatwave, cannas speed up.
- Height without staking. Most varieties reach 3–5 feet on their own.
- Flowers until frost. Not one flush — continuous colour from midsummer to October.
- Tropical foliage. Even out of flower the leaves carry the border.

Growing notes
Soak nothing before planting — canna rhizomes rot in cold, wet soil. Wait until the ground has warmed, then plant 4–6 inches deep with the growing points up. Water well once and leave them until the first shoot appears.
Once growing, cannas are thirsty. A deep soak twice a week beats a daily sprinkle, and a mulch of compost keeps the roots cool. Feed every three weeks until flowering starts, then stop — extra nitrogen gives leaves instead of flowers.
Overwintering
In zones 8–11 leave the rhizomes in the ground under a thick mulch. In zones 3–7 lift them after the first frost, dry them for a week, and store in barely-damp peat at 45–55°F.
Shipping and guarantee
Orders ship within 1–2 business days. If a rhizome arrives soft, mouldy or broken, send us a photo within 30 days and we replace it — no return shipping required.
Frequently asked questions
Do cannas come back every year?
In zones 8–11, reliably. In colder zones you lift and store the rhizomes, or treat them as annuals.
How tall do cannas grow?
Most garden varieties reach 3–5 feet. Dwarf types stay around 2–3 feet and work well in large pots.
Can cannas grow in pots?
Yes — a 12-inch pot holds one rhizome. Use a heavy compost and water daily in hot weather.
Are cannas toxic to pets?
No, cannas are not listed as toxic to cats or dogs, unlike many tropicals.
