Amaryllis Bulbs for Large Indoor Blooms – Cream & Red

Cream petals brushed with red stripes, opening four to six weeks after planting — this is the amaryllis that looks hand-painted. Each bulb throws up one or two thick stems carrying four to six trumpet flowers up to 20 cm across, all while the garden outside is doing nothing at all.

Why grow Amaryllis Bulbs for Large Indoor Blooms

Amaryllis is the only bulb that gives you a full flower show indoors in the dead of winter. There is no chilling period, no dark cupboard, no complicated forcing — you plant it in a pot, water it once and put it on a windowsill. This cream-and-red form is the one that reads as expensive on a mantelpiece.

How to plant and care for it

Choose a pot only 2–3 cm wider than the bulb, with drainage holes. Set the bulb so a third of it sits above the compost line — burying it fully is the commonest reason amaryllis rot. Water once, then wait until the first green shoot appears before watering again. Keep at 18–22 °C in bright light. Stake the stem as the flowers open, and turn the pot every few days so it grows straight.
