Orange tulips are the warmest thing in the spring garden, and they photograph badly in the best way: no screen quite catches the way a tangerine double lights up in low sun. This collection runs from a vivid orange fringed form, through tangerine, to a coral and an apricot that soften as they open.
Use orange next to deep purple or dark red for the strongest combination in spring, or with the yellow collection for something gentler. The apricot and coral shades are the ones to cut — they suit a mixed vase better than the saturated orange, which tends to dominate everything around it.
Plant 6–8 inches deep and 4–6 inches apart in full sun and soil that drains freely. Warm colours fade fastest in heat, so afternoon shade helps them last. Hardy in USDA zones 3–8.
