Stephania rotundifolia — often sold as S. venosa — carries broad, peltate leaves that attach to the stem from the middle rather than the edge, so they hang like small green umbrellas. The caudex is flatter and wider than erecta’s, more like a disc than a potato.
Why grow Stephania rotundifolia Bulb
The peltate leaf is the giveaway: the stem meets the leaf in the centre, which lets the foliage hang in a much more dramatic way than the coin-leaf species. It is the most architectural of the stephanias and the one that looks best allowed to trail.
How to plant and care for it
Plant the disc-like caudex half exposed in a wide, shallow pot. Bright indirect light, and a little more humidity than erecta prefers — a bathroom with a window suits it. Water when dry. It trails rather than climbs, so place it on a shelf edge or in a hanging pot. Reduce water sharply when growth stops in winter.
