Description

Clean white petals, no markings, held clear of the foliage on woody stems. A white tree peony does one thing and does it completely — which is why it works in formal gardens, against dark hedging, and anywhere a colour would be too much.

Why grow this one

White reads as structure rather than decoration. Planted at the corner of a lawn or against a dark wall, it draws the eye without competing with whatever else is flowering. It is also the colour that photographs most reliably, which matters if you ever sell plants or flowers.

How to plant and care for it

Autumn planting in full sun. White-flowered forms show petal damage more than coloured ones, so shelter from late frost if you can — a spot against a wall is ideal. Graft union 5 cm below soil, water in, mulch clear of the stems. Do not prune the woody frame; remove only dead wood in late winter.
