Coral and apricot are the rarest colours in the peony world, and this is the form that gets closest to a true sunset. The petals open peach, deepen to coral at the ruffled edge, and shift again towards cream at the base — three colours on one flower, all of them warm.
Why grow this one
Coral peonies sit between the pinks and the yellows and belong to neither group, which makes them the most useful plant in a border that has run out of ideas. They bridge hot and soft colour schemes, and because the tone is unusual, they read as expensive without being difficult.
How to plant and care for it
Plant bare roots in autumn in full sun. Coral forms colour best with plenty of light — in shade the petals stay closer to plain peach. Graft union 5 cm below soil, water through the first summer, then only in dry spells. Leave the woody stems alone; deadhead after flowering to the first leaf pair.
